Job Description

Our client, a leading heavy civil construction firm in the Carolinas, is hiring immediately for a qualified Field Engineer to support mid-sized NCDOT/SCDOT infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have 2–5+ years of construction engineering or estimating experience, preferably with a background in heavy civil work. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical engineering and cost support to ensure compliance with project design standards and specifications.
  • Assist in project controls including contract compliance, budgeting, scheduling, forecasting, and job costing.
  • Interpret construction drawings for craft workers to ensure accurate and compliant installation.
  • Collaborate with on-site departments to resolve issues and support construction quality and project timelines.
  • Develop essential job data including quantity take-offs, material pricing, labor and equipment costs for accurate project estimates.
  • Research historical performance data and productivity reports to help improve future estimates and project planning.
  • Potentially supervise, mentor, and guide junior staff to support professional growth and meet project standards.
  • Represent the company in client and project management meetings to maintain strong communication and alignment.

Requirements

  • 2–5+ years of experience in construction estimating, engineering, field support, or similar roles.
  • Strong understanding of heavy civil infrastructure construction processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications accurately.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience on mid-sized NCDOT/SCDOT infrastructure projects.
  • Background with large heavy civil contractors or mid-size subcontractors.
  • Local project experience in the Carolinas region.
